Why Autumn?
That is, it is NOT cherry-blossom season. So we won't be chasing elusive cherry blossoms that apparently can't be relied upon to be in bloom when you are there (Nature not lending itself to be organised).
On the other hand, we ARE chasing autumn colours - so let's hope we are in the right place at the right time.
However, every indication points to potential disappointment in this regard owing to the horribly hot summer there this year. I have been following the temperatures which have been mid to high thirties (sometimes even over 40 deg C - and humid!!); although (as I update this in mid-September) there are signs these tmperatures are finally starting to drop: at least to the high twenties. So I remain hopeful.
There is a saying: 'Autumn appetite': 食欲の秋 (Shokuyoku no Aki), referring to it as the season for eating due to the arrival of delicious, hearty and seasonal foods like chestnuts, sweet potatoes, mushrooms and persimmons.
Sounds good!
